It has been a little while since our last posting, but we have been very busy over the last few months. We’ve had several new members join our growing team, and we’ve expanded our office. This has been driven by growing sales and several new major customers.

During this very busy time we [reskinned several websites](http://www.aspidistra.com/Shopfront/Portfolio) with a new responsive template, including one of our favourites – [Upgrade Bikes](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/).

Have a look at the Upgrade Bikes website on various common screen sizes:

[Google Glass](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[Galaxy S5](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[iPhone 4](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[iPhone 5](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[iPhone 6](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[iPad mini 2](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[iPad 4](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[Amazon Kindle Fire](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)
[Microsoft Surface Pro](http://upgradebikes.co.uk/)

## So what is a responsive website?

A responsive website is one that responds to the viewing device, such as desktop, tablet, or mobile. This means that there is only one template that is needed to be maintained, rather than two or more for desktop and mobile, so changes only need to be done on the one template.

While responsive sites tend to be bigger in terms of file size, as images need to cater for the largest screen resolutions, this method is now preferred by search engines. This is because search engines don’t like sites rendering different content depending on the device viewing it, but a responsive website has the same HTML regardless of the device.

For further details of responsive web sites please refer to [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsive_web_design).

Aspidistra can update your [Shopfront](http://www.aspidistra.com/) website with a new responsive skin which has advantages for both maintainability and SEO.
